This was how our journey at The Tisch Brain Tumor Center began... An unexpected phone call from Rob to Jane on February 3, 2009(Super Bowl Sunday!) saying his vision was "not right"...to a diagnosis the following day of "inoperable brain tumor" to a visit on February 5 to Dr. Allan Friedman(yes, the same doctor that Senator Ted Kennedy used a few years later). Dr. Friedman said "You have a tumor the size of a baseball, we need to take that out. How about on February 15, do you mind if I operate on my birthday?" No, we did not mind at all. In fact, Rob handed Dr. Friedman a birthday card on his way to the operating room. After a successful surgery, followed by 45 days of chemo and radiation, things were looking promising on this Grade III Anaplastic Oligliodendriglioma(say that 3 times fast)! Then, more chemo 5 days a week every month for 12 months....also very promising. MRI's were every 2 months for the next year, then every 3 months, then every 4 months, then every 6 months, then every 8 months, until July of 2014 when our wonderful Duke doctors said "SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!" Amazing!! So now, we give back to The Tisch Brain Tumor center that saved Rob's life, and the lives of so many others. At Duke, there is HOPE!
AND...Party on Purpose is how we give back!
